the choir,

the singers,

and the music…

Hesperos is an ambitious, London-based chamber choir, jointly directed by Chris Breeze and Charlie Warren, with Daisy Syme-Taylor as artistic director.

Founded in 2018 by Daisy, Charlie, and Elizabeth Leather, the choir was established by a group of former university choral scholars united by a shared love of evening singing. Many of the original members met while singing evensong together each week, and sought to recreate that atmosphere of purposeful, attentive music-making shaped by collaboration and community.

For its first six years, the choir was based at St Francis of Assisi in Notting Hill, before moving in 2024 to St John the Baptist on Holland Road. Alongside regular concerts in London, Hesperos has sung services in cathedrals across the UK and undertaken short tours. The choir has also collaborated with a range of composers and performers, giving premieres and exploring new repertoire.

Hesperos is particularly known for its distinctive approach to programming, which centres on musical storytelling. Each concert is structured as a journey, combining music from different periods and traditions to explore shared themes, whether liturgical, literary, or emotional. Recent programmes have moved through themes of exile, grief, and renewal; the stillness of night; and the arrival of spring.

The choir’s repertoire spans early and contemporary music. Alongside well-known choral works, Hesperos regularly includes lesser-performed pieces and new commissions. This breadth is supported by a focus on thoughtful interpretation, expressive singing, and close ensemble work. We are, above all, a community of singers, collaborators, and listeners. The choir aims not only to perform to a high standard, but to explore music in ways that are reflective, immersive, and powerful.
